I've noticed that the two trends in television right now are; reality shows that aren't anything like reality, and "I'm gonna do whatever I want" shows. Adam Corolla steps up to the plate on Comedy Central, weeks after Andy Milonakis on MTV. My favorite show still is, of course, The P is R.
Been getting into Aaron Copland a lot lately. With a year of music history under your belt, you really begin to appreciate the infinite combinations of timbres and colors of the orchestra, and the infinite variations on them. Copland was one of the first American composers to write prolific literature for the orchestra, and a lot of Europeans scoffed at his aesthetic. It's definitively American, and revitalized music in young America's orchestra halls.
Speaking of American music, I listened to a fascinating interview on Talk of the Nation during my lunch break. Parked against the side wall of Marshall's, formerly Farmer Jack, with my tasty sack of Wendy's, I learned all about the early days of Jimi Hendrix. Apparently 4 of his siblings were given up for adoption, and he was booed in Harlem one month after playing Woodstock. The author made a good case for his book by pointing out its focus on Jimi's childhood, which we both agree are essential for understanding their art later in life. Hendrix was a sponge, absorbing influence after influence, and played air guitar for two years before he got a real one. Like I said, fascinating stuff.
I'm getting braces tomorrow. I shan't feel the smooth fronts of my choppers until Chrsitmas, if I'm lucky. People will undoubtedly recoil in shock upon at my smile, and I will be forever doomed to sitting alone at lunch. Will you be my friend? Can we make out?
time to watch TV, fall asleep, wake up, and go to bed. Later.
